Tomatonomics....

I got into tomatos so long ago it's like asking about Zoroastrianism...

The "BIG RED FRUIT"

You can make spaghetti, Pizza (I DID! Own Sauce...), CHILI, Marinara, magnificent pasta confections...

But I digress.

I get em' for about what it costs me to take a shower every day.

DOLLAR SIXTY EIGHT A POUND......

Whoa! Now that sounds heavy. An' I noticed that most of them in a store look kind of raunchy - you don't think they spent several days in a truck coming across country, DO YA?

"Plants soon out of the soil still have their maximum life force"

Sounds like some kind of wierd canniballism, doesn't it? Truthfully though - we know that freshness leaves anything picked BY THE SECOND

1) Do not be rude to one another - be thoughtfull of what may work for you as well.
2) Have no fear of being thought-less. For in telling TRUTH, you have done "THAT WHICH IS NECESSARY" no less than a King standing in battle

(truth must oft be defended)

3) In my failed crops - I find the means to keep my future ones strong! (Look ever forward)
4) The plants know what to do - even as your father ensured you did. Therefore leave them alone for a time...

Notice the "Green Rule" above?

That's the one that always trips me.

DON'T MESS WITH THE PLANTS

I like turtles!

But I like to eat tomatoes!

One of my all time best tomato plants was a volunteer that came up on the edge of my field in a manure rich berm. Whatever it was, that plant grew bushels of sweet cherry tomatos. It found it's own place, it's own nourishment and it's own water with no help from me.

I have cultivated many tomato plants but never got better results than from that one volunteer.

If I could find a tomato that wouldn't create a big bleeding hole in my stomach, I'd probably eat it... I've had to eliminate tomatoes from my diet since my ulcer, and other issues...

Used to like the cherry tomatoes - I remember one year, my wife grew a BUNCH of them out front of the apartment we lived in - way more than our family could eat. We were the only non-Mexican family in the complex and, when the neighbors came over to ask about the tomatoes, we told them take as many as they wanted. I found out I can't eat salsa, either...

Botanically speaking, they are.

Tomato - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

While it is botanically a fruit, it is considered a vegetable for culinary purposes (as well as by the United States Supreme Court, see Nix v. Hedden), which has caused some confusion.
It's also a member of the nightshade family, which I always found to be funny - but then, I'm just sick that way... lol...

Consider a biodome or greenhouse for plants that don't come from your part of the temperate zones.

If I can grow an orange tree indoors...

You talking about the Food Safety Act? If you are, that worthless piece of legislation was co-sponsored by one of our Senators. It doesn't bother me, I will share with family and friends anyway (especially zucchini ).

I did Zuchini and Summer Squash for a while - and all of my neighbors are asking if I'm going to grow more this year!

Unfortunately I want to focus on other things this time around.

*Did I ever post pics of the giant hybrid summer squash I grew one year?

If Zuch's and Summer Squash are grown together they can cross-pollenate and grow a huge yellow crook necked squash looking thing that makes dynamite fried yella squash slices... (6 inches in diameter)
