Regen Issues

Just a little back ground, I picked up the truck about 5K ago F450 6.4 60K miles. Have been seeing a lot of regens but I fugured with the city driving I might. Problem is I drove 75 Miles last thursday (6 Jun ), towing a 10K fifth wheel. 90% of the way in regen. Drove about 80ish miles and then again it goes into regen. That was Sunday. Now this mornig, going to work and bamb back in regen. Doesnt this seem a little excessive? Help! Idea?

this seems to be a frequent issue lately. i was getting frequent regens with my 450 too. Almost every 30 miles. Dealer found nothing. Eventually they started to spread out again after a while. But now i just gave up and last week installed a DPF/Cat delete. Much happier.

Not much help for you guys but I noticed an increase in my regens after the latest re-flash. I used to get around 300 or so miles empty and it dropped to 225 miles like clockwork. The towing regens were every 125 miles. My solution was to buy a new truck with a 6.2 gas engine in it.

My 450 has the 4.88 rear end and it regens every 75 miles at least when pulling my 5th wheel. this is the same as before the reflash for me.

5th wheel means nothing, what is the weight? because if you are close to 25k then it may not be surprising

Means nothing? The faster you drive or the harder you work these trucks the more they regen even when empty. Yes I'm close to 25,000 lbs.

Have you been using low cetane fuel recently? I know for a fact anything other than SHell or Chevron makes me regen all over the place and my mpgs go down the toilet.

I've been running Diesel Kleen at a rate of 0.4oz/gallon of fuel. It seems to make a difference by increasing distance between regens from 250 to 300miles in my case, but that's all city driving empty. Not sure how much of that is attributable to summer fuel though. I'll know more when winter-fuel comes around.

Overall, about 4-5% of my miles driven is spent in regen if that's any indication. A DPF delete smells better every day.

What i was trying to say was i can tow my empty 53ft 5th wheel car hauler, that is only 6k lbs and the truck would not regen much more frequent, a little earlier, by 50 miles the most. But when I would tow it with 4 cars at a gross weight of 26k lbs then it would regen a lot more frequent! This is why i was asking the weight, just becuase a trailer hooks up by a 5er does not mean its always heavy. (usually, but not always).

Speed is 60-65 max, towing or not. Trailer was 10K, and only traveled 70+ miles.
