So we drove 2000 miles round trip to myrtle beach with our camper this last week.1960 of it highway.. I have a edge insight and ive read that the regen happens when your soot level is 2.65 give or take.. Having been on highway 65 moh entire trip soot never got above 1.9 or so..Didnt notice a regen on my edge all the way down but got one on way back home. I caught the splash screen message and then saw the red r on edge. The soot level was only 1.32 and it regened. That was the only one entire trip and that was at about 1600 miles into trip. Is that strange or no?..Watched egt during regen and git up to around 1200 so I know it was a regen.Soot was around .8 or .9 when done in around 12 minutes..I just thought it wasnt supposed to happen at that soot level?
On a side note truck towed our 10 k camper great with no issues except the torrential down pours on way down and up and the entire vacation at beach! Awesome!!Flash flood on thursday ... Couldnt wait to get home..
I don't think I've ever heard a report of an AR starting that low.
Lowest my truck has ever made it at the end is 1.14 a long time ago.
I did have one start at 2.26 one time but that was with a tank of known 10% bio.
Hmmm... Yea it was below 1 for sure just cant remember exactly how low it was. I know I saw .9 and I think it may have been .89 or something... I do almost all highway and all towing with my truck... Ive yet to see it get even close to 2.62.. Its gotten to 2.45 but that was the highest ive seen it.Once I get on the highway it drops significantly...
Learning everyday.. I thought it only regened at 2.62 or something. So theres a passive regen as well... Ok makes sense then...
Yep, when EGT4 is above 550F you'll start to see the soot numbers begin to drop.
Towing that heavy, temps remain high enough to keep cleaning it with the normal heat the engine creates.
I guess at some point the truck decides it must run an AR regardless.
The 2.7x is just kind of a floatingstarting point. For a long time mine always started the active regen around 1.7. I have no idea what the logic is that triggers the regen.
But your exhaust system will perform a passive regen anytime your exhaust gas is above 572°F or 300° C. Towing I see that number frequently and you can watch the soot % drop as you drive.
I am taking it you all have the edge insite to be able to see all that info? I just traded my 09 6.4 in for a 12 6.7 and can't seem to keep it out of Regen. I have 600 miles on it and have had 5 regens already. Now I know you all will say that I just haven't given the truck time to complete... and maybe your right. I am doing the same type of driving (crusing at 60 mph unloaded) I did with the 6.4 which only took 16 miles to complete. I have driven up to 22 miles with the new one and just figured it completed but maybe not. I am getting kind of aggravated. So I have a few questions.
1. Will I get a "clean complete" message in the dash?
2. How long should an AR take?
3. My manual said that there is a gauge in the info center for the DPF but mine doesn't or at least I cant find it in gauge mode.
Other than this and getting used to the shifting, the truck is freaking awesome!

I noticed something similar to this, albeit my trip wasn't as long as yours (maybe 650 miles round trip). Although the passive regens (while towing) keep the soot levels much lower, I think that the truck will kick off an active regen every xx miles regardless. FWIW- I posted something similar in this forum early this summer and that is the feeback that I received...doesn't sound unreasonable.

My guess was that it does regen no matter what at x amount of miles.Although I also thought it was a sensor that kicked it off but maybe its both sensor and miles based.
Az Elk, What is the problem with it doing regens? Heck most of the time I never even notice mine doing a active regen unless I happen to catch it on the gauges. It's not like you can hear a big difference in engine noise or loose power during the process.
I just let the truck do it thing and drive like it's a non-event. I don't extend my drives to finish a regen. Unless you get a Drive to Clean message, Which I've had two in 70,000 miles. I've just stopped being concerned about Active regens.
There are a number of things that contribute to how often you get an active regen, Your fuel that you are burning, The oil you are using, how you drive, will all affect how much soot is created and trapped by the DPF.
