I'll be doing this on my 61 pretty soon. Don't limit yourself to Southern Cal - there are numerous sources for parts like this all over the U.S. that will ship to your door. Sacramento Vintage Ford is obviously in Southern Cal and may have what you need. You might even find it right here in the parts area on MotorHaven. Other sources include Dennis Carpenter Ford, Macs Antique Auto Parts, another one that isn't mentioned on here, and several others. A quick web-search using yahoo will probably turn up most of the bigger ones. Good luck.

King pin sets for the 65-79 pickups are an over the counter item at most parts stores. Remove the I-Beam (its easy) and have the pins and old bushings pressed out and new bushings pressed in and reamed to fit the new pins. Trust me on this! You do not want to try beating these out by hand. While your there replace the pivot and radius arm bushings as well.

Hey William - would the same advice apply to my 61 F100? I'd be surprised to find kingpins at the local part store for it. Do I have to remove my straight axle? Yuck!

I got a king pin set for my '62 with brass bushings from Orilley. It was 20~30$ for the set w/brass bushings. Since my original axle was bent I already had it off the truck and all it took was about 3 whacks with a hammer to get them out. Since I don't have a reamer I went and had a shop put the pins in the new axle for me.

The trick is finding someone at the counter that knows how to use a parts book...

I always remove the axle or I-Beam and press out the old pins and bushings. Pounding ruins the threads for the grease caps. I guess you could give it a couple of quick whacks (you might get lucky), but plan on pulling the axle. I know it is quite a bit of work but I believe it is the only way to do this job right.

I have a 1964 ford f-100 and i was able to get the pins out in my drive way with out pulling the i beam off. As a matter of fact they both fell right out of the assembly one i pulled the keeper bolt. I did have to get the bushings reamed to match the new pins.

Can you ream the new bushings yourself? Where can you have this done? My local shop wants $500.00 to replace ths kingpins on my 61. I want to do it myself.
