Can someone please educate the dumb indian over here? LOL Divorced, married, hell I have been divorced since 97! NP205?
The reason I am asking is because I understand that the NP205 is gear driven and bullet proof. So I need some education. I am assuming I want a divorced case because I am wanting a brownie between the tranny and the xfr. I have found an NP205 w/yokes for 300 out of a 78 ford. I just need to know the differences and what to look for. Hell someone just teach me! LOL
The 205 is a cast iron cased, gear driven transfer case, and as you said bullet proof. No chains to break. The devoriced case runs a short drive shaft between the transmission and the transfer case, while the married case is bolted right to the tranny. The devoriced case will have a yoke on the input shaft, while the married one will have a splined coupler on the input shaft. That one from the 78 ford will more than likely be a married case.
So in order to use a brownie, (gear vendor) in 4wd I have to have the brownie, "divorced" from the tranny, then divorced to the xfr right? So if that is a married xfr then I need to keep looking for a yoked, divorced 205. What is a NP203?
Man thanks so much. I so appreciate all the help on here. If I ever get this rig together it is going to be damn nice...LOL I hope...LOL I may be old and retired by then, but dammit I am going to have my truck they way I want it!

Which is it you are going to use, a gear vendor or a brownie? A gear vendor is an over drive only. Gear Vendor calls it an over drive-under drive but they are just playing with words. They do make an under drive unit though.
A brownie or auxiliary trans can have 2,3 or 4 gears.
The adapter's on the gear vendor are all made to bolt direct to the rear of either the transmission or rear of the transfer case.
Brownie, i put gear vendor in there for those that might now know what a brownie is. So just don't worry about the brownie until AFTER the xfr. I do kinda doubt I need to gear lower in 4 low. It is pretty damn low now..LOL So you are probably right. Besides a married 205 is easier to find.
