I have a 93 ford ranger. The ac quit. I converted my freon to the new stuff and added red dye leak detector and freon with oil. I had ac but my clutch? keeps locking up. It makes an awful stink when it stops. So today I stopped using ac again! (I'm a single mom and live in sc). I bought a new compressor clutch, but am wondering what do I need to do to figure out if it's the clutch or whole compressor. Any technical instructions would be appreciated. I'm doing this on my own fellows.

Reason: Spelling
What do you mean when you say the clutch is locking up? Is the a/c compressor still running even when you shut off the a/c controls?
"Awful stink", does that mean the clutch smells like it's burning or something?
Did you follow all instructions when converting from 12 to 134a? Flushed the system etc?
If you flushed the system real good you also flushed out all the oil. YOu have to make sure you put the correct quantity of oil back in.
The most important thing though, is how did you flush the system out? To do it properly, you would have had to get air in the system and before you charge with the 134a, the system needs to be evacuated with a vacuum pump. If you did this by yourself, you probably didn't evacuate the system, right?
