Finally took off the smashed in body parts on my 78 F250 4x4, and the crossmember on the front of the frame right in front of the engine doesn't go straight across. Not sure if the frame got tweaked when it took out the neighbors fence, garden and garage or if it's supposed to be this way. Here's some pics so you can kinda see what I'm talking about. The first one is from top, and you can see the crossmember on the pass side, and it dodges back on the driver side. The second one is from the front so you can see which crossmember I'm talking about.
Cool. I didn't think the metal looked like it was bent, but I wasn't sure if that offset was right. Thanks. Now I gotta decide whether to slap on the replacement parts and sell it, or pull the motor, rebuild it, and do a resto. The hood was the only body part I was going to keep when I got it, and that plan was smashed by the garage. She's pretty rough, so the resto would be pretty extensive, but I've always loved these trucks. It's currently saving me enough money on my insurance by sitting in the driveway that I'm not in a super hurry to sell it, but it sure is takin' up some space. Was my DD til I got the super duty. Funny how the v10 saves me money on gas.
Doing a slow resto is kind of an issue. Stupid city ordinances about working on your car. I pretty much get left alone, but I don't want to press my luck. I can get away with it for a little while, but if it takes too long I'll start getting warning citations. Gotta keep it driveable. Or appearing to be driveable. Money is kinda tight, but these 78 and 79 fords are my favorite trucks. So I'm kinda torn.
