Disabling perimeter lighting

Disabling perimeter lighting
I followed the instructions in the manual for disabling the "perimeter" lighting feature. I don't get the "chirp" that let's me know the truck is in programming mode.
I did have instant success in disabling the automatic door locking feature which is done by a similar process. I did get the "chirp".
Any ideas?

Well, it turned out that the Ford owner's manual instructions were faulty. Instead of using the remote unlock button, I used the unlock button on the door. Doing that and following Ford's directions otherwise disabled the Perimeter lighting.
