I was reading the ricer tread and felt i had to post this story of my friend Larry.
This may be a little graphic.
A ricer will not hold up to an accident at all. My good friend Larry was involved in an 80 mph head on collisin with a 16 year old girl..
She died on impact. This happened almost a year ago. Larry drove a 79 3/4tone Chevy truck. 6" lift with 38.5 gumbo mudders.
I was with his brother Jason who i worked with at the time. We were driving through town and saw Larry at the gas station. So i pulled in and bs for a while. Larry headout for his grandparents house. and we stayed to get some pop and headed out too about 5 min later. We come up on Larrys truck and see it smoking on the side of the road. We thought it broke down. So we stoped Back with the hazzard lights on and walk up. Then i see it. A newer white Honda civic completly under the front end of the truck sideways. The report was that she was comming into a down hill sweeping turn that was about 45 degree angle to the road when she lost controle of the car. She slid sideways at en estimated 80+mph into the lane that larry was in and hit him head on. She died on impact. That is something i never want to see again or never wish anyone to ever see. I puked all over the road when i saw her. We found larry sitting on the oposite hil bleading bad fron the gash in his head caused by the roof mounted cb. The impact was so bad the the trucks frame was bent pushing the bed into the cab, both front tires were blown off the rims, the frint axle was under the cab, both front leaf springs were snaped, oil pan riped off motor, front bumper bent , windsheld craked and cb destroyed from larrys head hitting it. He needed almost 100 stiches. But other than that he was shaken. The truck had to be lifted off her car to get her body out. The entire front bumper of the truck was splatered with her blood.
No charges were ever brought apon him being it was her fualt. The truck never left the lane it was in. We recieved the truck back after the investigation was done. Jason bought it off the insurance company for 500 bucks. We striped it in 2 days saving the entire drivetrain, and the interior, There was not a straight piece of sheet metal on it. Thats how bad the frame tweeked.
The hardest part to get rid of was the front bumper. It still ahd her blood on it. we torched it into small pieces.
The worst part about the whole incident was the the girl was friends with Jasons girlfriend and most of the younger girls that me and jason worked with. There were many times that we almost fought people for calling larry a killer. If anyone made a dreogitory remark about him i got in there face. He has lived the last year of his life in hell. He feels guilty for her dying and the people making remaks don't help. He spent a good 6 months in the bottle and is finally working to get his life back on track. But some people still try and bring him down.
Tim - you're a great friend to stick up for him in this situation. This reminds me of a quote from OZ (on HBO) - "Death is harder on the living than it is on the dead"
Has your friend had any contact with the girl's family? Maybe if the family tells him that it wasn't his fault, then he'll be able to go forward.
I feel for you and your friend. My wife went through a similar situation almost 4 years ago. She used to work with the mother of the lady and little girl that died.
The hardest part for my wife was when the mother told my wife that there was nothing she could of done, and then the lady's boyfriend decided to blame my wife for everything and attempt to sue her.
I have never wished ill favor on anyone, but if I found out that the lady's boyfriend died, I would just say good riddens and have a drink.
I know thats hard on anyone
I know he appericates you sticking up for him..
I think it is sick how people want to blame
someone so bad and the person had no
thoughts of hurting anyone..Like you said
it wasn't his fault at all, that could have been any
of us...
I do sincerely grieve for you and your friends, I know it is hard, I know people who have or are going through the same, I also feel a bit worse because I am sure that it was my post about what happens when an American block of iron runs into a piece of imported fiberglass. I am sorry.
J.D.
They think that freeks me out is it could have been me and his brother who hit her. If we had left first or if we had all pulled out 1 minute earlier or later none of this would have hapened. Its just a game of what-ifs .
On a happier note hes is driving a ford now. My cousin sold him his 73 F-250 it has a custom 9 in suspension lift and a 3 inch body. It is bigfoot blue with 42 super swamper tsl's. 460, c6, highpinion 60 up front, linkin locked 69 out back 205 t case. The tranny went so he is putting a 4 speed in it.
yep and I bet most of them blammed him because he had a lifted truck! you talk about what if ask you r friend this, what if he was in a stock truck or a car he may have not survived at all!! and I bet most people didn't know all the facts like she was speeding and she hit him not the other way around. I have no problem with lifted trucks and suv's (I own both) but man it burns my biscut when stuff like this happens and it always the trucks/suv fault because they are biult tougher. I have own a few ricers I have rolled one and smeared another car with one they give you a false since of security tell your buddy hold his head up high it was not his turn to die same to you what if we left earlyier? wasn't your time either. if your truck is within your state's lift law then keep on trucking and never buy a ricer!
You know that was the strange thing. Nobody ever said a word about it being lifted. The paper actually did a good job of reporting it. I think the headline was something like Local teen hits truck head on at over 80 mph. Not lifted truck kills teen. It was mostly her punk friends who started stuff. The worst part was his brother was down at the local hang out and two kids (the dead girls friends) jumped him and his girl. Roughed him up a bit. The kid got to much pride to let us get them back. he wanted to handle it himself.
Not to change the topic, more or less to update my previous post.
I got a call today saying that the whole lawsuit that regarding my wifes accident is finally settled. That only took 4 years and 3 months.
Sounds like your friend is a good guy. Pride or not, I would want to get back at those who did that.
Stick beside him. I don't know when your friends accident was, but I know my wife is still getting over hers, if she ever gets completly over it. Every year so far, on the day of the accident she won't leave the house.
