Finally decided to get some working gauges. I plan on getting water temp, oil press, oil temp, trans temp, and egt.
first question is i found a good ebay deal on oil temp gauge but can't find a trans temp one cheap enough ( yeah i'm pretty cheap), can i just use an oil temp one?
also do these gauges have enough range
Oil pressure: 0-120psi
Oil temp: 32-300 F (also for trans temp)
Water temp: 32-300F
egt: 200-2200F
i dont have a turbo so i dont need a boost gauge and i found some gauges on ebay they are from china so i'm alittle iffy on them but the price is very right
Ok i looked around alittle more the ones i was first looking at were about 15 bucks a pop from china but i'm not too sure i trust their quality they are called "Dragon gauges".
I also found Glow shifts for 36 a pop which i've heard are good Do you guys think i should just man up and spend the extra cash for something i know won't be crap or has anyone ever bout the dragon gauges
I went with autometer because if one ever breaks or fails i can take/send it back while they send off a new one to keep me going. ebay wont do that i dont care which model you buy. Snapon has the glowshift i think and likes them, i believe there are a few more that run them as well. here is a pic of mine.
does anyone know the ranges needed on these gauges?
0-30 turbo, 0-1600 pyro/egt, up to 250 on trans temp is plenty, same for oil temp iirc, 0-280 water temp but you will only need up to 240 before major problems lol. i dont think the oil pressure will ever see above 60ish but 0-120 would peg it right in the middle so it would be accurate.
thanks alot wreck and yeah i'd prefer to buy quality and easy return over price if i could but i'm on a very tight college budget so basically its get the best deal i can or don't get them at all. and everywhere i looked that not ebay is about 50-100 a piece right now is WAAAY out of my price range.
I just checked too the china crap has no warranty whats so ever. But the glow shifts come wit ha one year warranty, and the sellers name is glowshift which leads me to believe it's in some way affiliated with the company. so i think i'll partially man up and get those
haha thats like saying you have a car without the wheels. lol. the pillar could be modded and with your budget, its better to have gauges that work than be pretty doing it. But yeah you can absolutely do the mod, just do some poking around and you will see where to cut the piece off. which gauges come with the 4 pack?
ok first off aune pm me how much you want for the turbo i doubt i can afford it but hey i'll bite.
and wreck the pillar comes with nothing but i'm getting oil press, oil temp, water temp, and egt total will be 250 bucks for all of it
Do you have a link to the 4-gauge pillar? I didn't think they made one of those. I have a glowshift 3-gauge pillar for 92-97 that I modified to fit my '88, pics are in my album.
Another gauge option is VDO. They were standard for the old VW Rabbit GTI's for extra gauges. I have a few in my Jetta and my boost gauge in my F-250 is VDO and I haven't had any problem with them. They are pretty affordable, although don't always include the sender for the electrical gauges. VDO - JEGS High Performance
