so i took off my egr valve today and cleaned it. put new orings on it and a new gasket at the bottom where it meets the manifold. the whole top compartment on the valve itself was full of gunk. i put it back on and started it up. it ran fine for about 10 seconds then did a loping type of thing for maybe 2 seconds. took it for a ride and every oce in a while it would do the same thing for about 5 seconds, while loping puffing little clouds of grey smoke. then when the loping went away, a pretty good size of black smoke would puff out and it would run like a dream until it happened again. and suggestions. thanks in advance.
was not throwing codes, nor running like it did. it was running fine, i just was doing some preventative maintenance. would it still run like that if it was unplugged?
You can try unplugging the valve and see if that clears the problem. If it does it's time to change the valve. When you unplug it make sure the keys are out of the ignition so that you know the valve will be closed.
You may have knocked off some carbon build up when you pulled the valve. Try running the truck real hard for short burst to clear the system out.
ok, i got to looking, and i found some things i might be interested in. if i replace the egr valve, could i get the bulletproof egr cooler? or would i be better off doing an egr delete completely?
