1. If you remove smog pump using eliminator kit or rerouting a shorter belt as was suggested by the service manager at my dealership when my pump went out, what about all the other stuff connected to it? I have not heard anyone address this and mine has a fair amount of stuff connected to it going to back of right head and to fender panel. Any issues removing all this? It would seem pointless to remove pump and leave about 20 lbs. of unused clutter hanging on engine and fender panel.
2. I was planning on installing headers but noticed a vertical piece of equipment mounted at front of right head next to valve cover that connects to a bung in front end of exhaust manifold and wires and hoses at the top. What to do? I have seen no headers with a bung for this or heard anyone mention having encountered this. My truck is a 1995 f150,351w,efi,e40d 4x4.
all of your questions can be answered by typing "smog" into the search option there are tons of threads about this.... its very common to remove the smog stuff in areas where theres no e-checks.
#2 is the EGR valve and plumbing. I would not remove this as it helps your gas mileage out quite a bit. You can either get headers with the EGR bung or have an exhaust shop weld one in for you.
there is tons of information about this going either way and if my computer hadnt crapped out sunday night id share them but there are egr delete kits and threads that argue for weeks about the enviornment, reliability, mpg, and overall engine cleanliness from the egr im sure some one will chime in to give you at least some of the links.
Thanks for your reply 96ford250
I had tried a search for smog pump removal but found very little info. Whats confusing is that there seems to be no set answer, some say they have done it with no problems, others say don't do it because it will mess everything up. Still scratching head. I will keep looking. Thanks again.
I have spent a lot of time online looking at headers and on youtube doing the same and had not seen anyone with this thing attached to their headers. Stock manifold has this thing attached to it and there is also another bung with wiring down lower on the exhaust pipe (02 sensor?). Since stock manifold is a common area for all exhaust ports and headers are separated I was wondering if routing this thing into just one ports outlet would be a good idea. I will keep researching. Thanks again.
I appreciate the pics, first time I have seen a setup like this. I am going with longtubes but same diff I guess. I am looking at getting fenderwell exit if I can find them. I had a pair built for a 67 plymouth gtx 440 back in 68 and loved em. They were easy to uncork (didn't have to climb under car to do it) if you happened to get challenged to a drag race (shhhh). They were also so easy to get off and on it's not funny. Just out of curiosity, looking at the picture it looks like all access to sparkplugs on passenger side is blocked by tubes, or is just the angle of picture? By the way I was born in Hattiesburg. If back from desert mountains means Afghanistan, Thanks and God speed.
Longtube headers will give better performance than shorties will, but all longtube headers are off-road use only. Longtube headers violate federal smog legislation because they move the cat further away from the head.
Just something to keep in mind if you need to worry about passing an emissions inspection. I'm not sure about SC but here in CA longtubes are a no-no.

Don't think you're gonna find those.

They are a little tighter than the stock manifolds, but due to the construction of individual tubes, this will be the case on just about all headers on a SBF. But I can still get the stock Motorcraft plug in & out.

No it has to do with a recent vacation to the Big Bend National Park in TX. Hence the "Terlingua Racing Team" Logo/Avatar. I'm not so fortunate to have served.
i personally am going to remove mine when i rebuild my top end. but im also going to carb and mech fuel pump so its a little bit different because i dont have echecks to worry about. but its realy just a throw up between reliability and mpg because what you might lose im mpg you might save in repairs to the egr and over all longevity of the motor.
