I noticed in my search, a lot of other sites claiming Fred's truck is everything from a red Chevy, to it being a 1947 M-47, but the pictures are worth a thousand words.
I know were there is one, my nefewand me looked at it this summer past it's for sale(unadvertised)I don't know how much but I can find out oh ya it's canadian.
Since we got on the subject, anybody got any idea where I can get a good picture of the logo on the door of Fred's truck? And was it primered red, faded red, or gloss red? Since the current plan calls for the mechanicals of my '51 to be completely finished and then have the ugly carcass bolted back on as-is for awhile, I've toyed with the idea of painting it up as a clone. How do you feel about Fred Sanford's truck lowered with a blown small block?!? "Lamont! You big dummy!"
The Sanford & Son truck appears to be a '51 Five Star Deluxe F-1 that probably had a flathead six. That is if the studio didn't make any mods to the truck. All indications are it was an original Five Star Deluxe as it has most all the features of such... Three bars of stainless along the hood, chromed Ford hood badge, stainless trim around the windshield, arm rest on the door (lower upholstered panel is missing but the upper panel is there), etc. The lack of a V8 badge on the panel below the hood badge indicates it's a 6.
Thanks for the help and pics, guys! I won't be building a 100% authentic replica, but I want it to look close. I do have the 5-star deluxe cab, so that will at least be correct. I won't have the Sanford & Son look forever - just for a year or so while I tweak the mechanicals and electrics, collect trim and misc. parts, and basically enjoy the truck after a 16 year build process. After I'm bored with the beater look, it'll get beautified. It sure will be fun to attend the cruise-in's for a summer with a mechanically updated Sanford look-alike, though!
Sorry I just thought it was a 52 because of what they said during the show
One show the truck gets stolen and Fred calls the police and says "Yea I want to report a stolen 52 pick up"
guess the directors weren't to much up on the year it really was
