HI JUST BOUGHT A WORK TRUCK, AND NEED SOME HELP!
IT'S A 1990 FORD F350 4X4, WITH A E4OD TRANNY.
HERES THE PROBLEM, SHIFTS HARD FROM 1 TO 2ND GEAR
THE SPEEDO DOES NOT WORK (SOMETIMES IT BOUNCES) AND I HAVE A LIGHT ON THE DASH THATS SAY REAR ANTILOCK.
WHERE SHOULD IT START TO LOOK?
I'm not sure when Ford changed to a VSS... But I know the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is in the rear pumpkin on trucks a little newer than mine. Check to see if there is a cable runing out of the transfer case tail shaft. IF there is then you have a older style mechanicle speedo (like mine) that uses 2 gears to drive the speedo. A "driven gear" (on the end of the cable) and a "drive gear" inside the tcase tail housing. Ford still sells both but you need to know what color the gears are. (PS if you have bigger than factory tires on the truck the little driven gear on the end of the cable is what you change to correct your speedo so it reads the right speed).
The shifting hard problem is common... I would get some ATF and a E40D filter and change the fluid. There are check ***** that shift the tranny at certain points but if your fluid hasn't been changed in 100K you might have sticky icky fluid gumming up your tranny.
