I recently got started on the balljoint replacement job on my light duty F-250. When I stripped down the hardware and got to see the actually balljoints, I had a feeling I had ordered the wrong size. Sure enough, I had: I had ordered, I'm sure, balljoints to fit a Heavy Duty F-250, not a Light Duty model (the lowers were much bigger than the ones on the truck and the uppers were without a threaded spindle, like the ones on the truck).
Having purchased them at Canadian Tire a while ago, I'm confident I'll be able to exchange them for the right ones. My question is: what would be the right size?? That is, would they be the same as a standard model F-150?
Thanks,
i think some of this depends on what year your talking... check with Rock Auto below and compare. If your back in 1999, you have F150, F250, and Supercab models. Newer units are "super duty"... There appear to be several versions of the F250.
I did mine last winter and replaced the upper and lower ball joints. I have found that it's easier to tell the parts guy F-150 rather than F-250 LD. I am pretty sure yours should be from the 150.
Most parts places default to the SD when you mention F-250. Something to keep in mind is that the LD F-250 is closer to a 5/8 than a true 3/4 ton vehicle.
That's what I'll do then. F-150 balljoints. I took some rough measurements of the balljoints on the truck so I'll have some partial specs. to work with.
Thanks a bunch for responding.
