My E350 V10 with 5 speed torqshift has begun to be slow to engage forward and reverse. Sometimes it is normal and sometimes it is a second or two before it engages. When it delays it seems to engage rather harshly.
Any ideas as to what this is.?
I have 60k miles on it, the transmission has been serviced twice by draining the pan and external filter change, no flushes. Once it engages it works perfect like normal.
I have been using Mikes 5 Star tuner for two years and towed for 2,000 miles recently locked in 4th gear on the interstate. I put the stock programme back on the van and it does the same thing. I hope its not the beginning of tranny woes.
Thanks for any suggestions. It is full of fluid and its not burned and no leaks.

I changed the external filter this evening and there was no metal in the filter or casing, so I am somewhat relieved, it sometimes does engage perfectly but usually has a delay for reverse.

Could be...
Some cars have a time delay when it's shifted from Forward to reverse and visa versa, It's annoying and could possibly be tuned out or minimized.
Another option, drop the pan and peek around for anything extra worn or not right.
