TorqShift Yoke Play

TorqShift Yoke Play
I have been chasing a vibration above 65 MPH in my '05 E350 Van with V-10 and TorqShift. I have exhausted the tire, balance, wheels, Rear Axle assembly, and checked balance on drive shaft and replace U-joints.
There is some noticeable play where the yoke goes into the transmission. On my '97 E350 with 4EOD there is a little bit of play but no where near the same as the '05 Van.
I have read where there may be a bushing in the rear housing that goes bad. And that the housing should be replaced and the Yoke.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Michael

Thanks Mark. From reading your previous posts, I was hoping you would chime in. So I guess the play is a bad thing? The van only has 70K miles but I guess the bad u-joint may have worn the bushing.
How is it removed? What do I ask for at the dealer? Or can it be sourced elsewhere?
Thanks,
Michael

I ordered the tools to do the removal and install. My problem now is the local Ford dealer says that through Ford, only the entire housing is available. He can get the seal but not the bushing. Web search has not producing anything as of yet except the tools. Any ideas on where to find the bushing?
Thanks,
Michael

Yea, they quoted me $245 for the extension housing, I called a couple of transmission parts suppliers and they show no bushing available, ford dealer laughed when I complained. I told him I wanted to buy a spark plug and that he should include the rest of the engine with it. This is absolutely unacceptable for a 50 cent bushing. Especially considering my torqshift only has 90k on it. My other van with 4r100 has 230k and has half of the slop in the shaft. Ford should offer the bushing just because they didn't do it right in the first place. I am wondering if the 4r100 bushing is the same? maybe Mark will know Andrew.

It was www.wittrans.com (Whatever It Takes Transmission) It was not listed on their website but an email got the right one sent. Was something like $3.50 plus shipping.

Hi Micheal, thanks for posting the source. I am interested to see if what they sent you was the right bushing. I found another place on the internet that listed the 4R100 bushing as the same for the torqshift and from what Mark said it won't be the right one.
Please let me know if the one WIT sent you is the right one.
Thanks.
My seal has not leaked but I don't like how much movement there is in the yoke and I am having some low speed vibration when towing my camper.

Mark, thanks for posting so much help to all of us here on this site. I was wanting to ask you what would be too much movement in that yoke. I once replaced one on my mid 90's van and when I got the new one in there the movement was about the same, but only about half of the amount the torqshift bushing is moving.

It feels like a lot of movement but I just got under my van and measured the slack. If I pull down on the shaft and then push all the way up I have 1/16th of an inch movement. So when its sitting in neutral and I push up it is 1/32nd of an inch. I am surprised it is so little compared to how it feels. What do you think Mark? I don't know what the specs are for that bushing, but have not been able to find out.
Andrew.

Thanks Mark and Micheal for posting. I ordered the extension housing bushing from WIT today just to have around, I was hoping you would notice a big difference Micheal but I have been through this before on another van.
I put a 10.5 Sterling/F250 rear axle assembly in my current van and I also had a 5 inch aluminum driveshaft made. Its real smooth at highway speed but has some low vibes at 40-50 mph towing. Pinion angles are right, I am just having to work my way through it. 4.30 gears.
I am hearing guys having vibration issues with 4.30 gears for no obvious reasons, I am also reading of new trucks having vibration issues too. It seems to be a challenging area to deal with.
1/32 doesn't seem too much to me either Mark.
I have been moving my driveshaft around on the rear flange, made a big difference on other vehicles but not on this one, just moves the vibration to very slightly higher or lower speed.
thanks again, Andrew.
