Hey guys
The other day I started to get a hissing noise when I turn the steering wheel. Its pretty loud, sounds like its in the cab, but I think its the hydroboost. I flushed the fluid with mobil1 synthetic but it still does it. Has anyone heard of the hydroboost making noise like this before? Do they ever wear out, or could this be related to the power steering pump?
Its got the typical hard to steer when on the brakes, but the noise goes away when I do that, so that keeps me thinking hydroboost. Its strange, no leaks or any sign of something wrong. It drives fine its just the loud hissing you can hear inside and out.
Well if it was the pump then I think the sound would still be there so maybe you are right. Have you opened the hood and listened to it right there at it?
I've been driving the truck for over a week now and it hasnt changed. Im about 99% sure its the hydroboost. I think something must have failed internally inside of it and when I turn the wheel it sends fluid through the hydroboost and is creating the noise. Has anyone ever heard of these things being rebuildable? A new one isnt cheap as I've discovered.
Yes they do wear out, not common but they do occasionally, a good hydraulic shop should be able to handle the rebuild! Please do not attempt it yourself it will not be successful! It is a very complex valving that needs professional repair for SAFE OPERATION!!!!
