I agree with Steve83 on the top removal and storage idea. The tops are not just fibreglass. They are fibreglass OVER a steel frame. They are more durable than most give them credit for. '92 and up have shoulder harness seat belts mounted in them and Uncle Sam wouldn't let Ford attach seat belts to fibreglass alone. And since I mentioned it, if you want to remove the top on 92-96's you will need the T-50 Torx to remove the shoulder harnesses.

Actually its '92 and up for the Fed law on high-mount stop lamps. Thats why Ford put the tamper-proof Torx bolts in the tops and took the instructions for removing it out of the owner's manual in 92. And the concern over getting citations because of the "missing stop lamp" is minimal. Even The most obnoxious State Trouper isn't likely to ask what year your truck is just so he/she can ticket you for it. (Bronco owners employed by law enforcement should have stopped reading this by now...hopefully).

If you are really concerned about it, you can always rig another stop lamp up to the top of the tailgate or tire carrier if you have the external tire carrier.

BTW, I can't speak to the manual T-case because I have yet to have a problem with my electronic BW1356 but the auto hubs are a must go! I plan on sending them packing just as soon as I finish fixing my other 3-5 problems for the month.

I agree on the "who cares" factor, but cops can be picky. Especially to young folks blasting down the road in a topless Bronco without seatbelts (law in most, if not all states).

I thought the Bronco, which is classified as a truck, followed the truck rules.
I do know the trucks didn't get a 3rd Brake light or airbag till '94.
Doesn't the Bronco follow suit?

I fthe third brake lite is an issue , just rig a light that will plug into the harness where it usually does for the topper and have the lite attached to a strong magnet that would stick to the tailgate.

apeice of felt or soft fabric over the magnet will protect the paint if you ride is as much show as it is go.

McLeod,

All I know for certain is that 92 and up had the high-mount stop lamp and the tamper-proof Torx in the top. There is no airbag on my 92 so it may have been optional til 94.

You will have plenty of time to work on the truck once you get it. Buy it, be happy and be addicted to making it the way you want it. There are a lot worse things you could be doing.
