Still thinking about what to get.....very difficult to pull the trigger on the 6leaker.
I found a '99 SC LB XLT 7.3L with 211K for $7900. It's about an hour and a half away. Pics looks great, no rust and one dent in the pass door. I can't go this weekend, but I REALLY want to look at this.
Someone tell me why I shouldn't consider this. I know about the oil pan issue with the 7.3...what else should I check out? Tranny? How can I tell if the tranny is bad?
The last lawn mower that ticked me off was a rider. It didn't hold up well to 44's that were bolted to '79 F350. "Hey, can I borrow your truck a minute?" "Sure!" "Thanks" and it was over. I have a video somewhere. Guess thats what happens when I have a bon fire at my house and we're on a 'kill the keg' mission.
I could pay cash for it...no loan, wife get's to keep her Expedition if she wants or trade it in for a lease of her choice....lots of pluses with this one.
That story made me remember another one. This kid brought his car over for me to see if I could fix it. One of them little Chevy Beretta things. It was a POS. I opened the hood, there was coolant everywhere, it was smokin' hot, and head gasket gone. "Sure, I can fix it." I close the hood, walk into my barn, stop at the fridge, get a beer, and jump in my 95 Bronco. 6" lift, 36" tires. The car is sitting in my driveway steaming, so I decide some PSI on the hood might seal that head gasket right up. So I drove one tire (on my drivers side so I could hang out and look down like a real redneck) up on the hood (I had 4 link, lotsa travel) and up the windshield, and over the roof, down the trunk, and off. Crushed the thing right in front of the kid. He's all like "I gotta get my stuff out of there, the stereo and stuff!" (there were more swear words and other things involved but this is a family friendly forum, so I'm sure you get the picture) So that's when I decide that the doors are must be what's in his way, since they don't open real well anymore. Took my monster maul (big steel log splitter) punched a hole in the drivers door, hooked a chain to it, and after quite a few hard tugs, got the door open for him. After that he didn't ask me to help him with that car anymore.
It was a $100 car, 19 yr old kid, and he still talks to me this day! (it was about 8 years ago) I was kind enough to load it on my flatbed for him after we got done destroying it that night. ;-)
