I have run pretty much all kinds of tires on my truck.
I currently run Michelin Highway tires (LTX-M), they are expensive, but they are very quiet, have a 70k mile warranty, excellent handling and braking. I have off-roaded them in sand (performed ok), rocks (surprisingly good), and snow (poor). I would heartily endorse them.
I have run their AT tire (LTX-A), similar price, a little better off-road at the expense of a little handling/braking/noise and has a 60k mile warranty. Those tires were pretty good too.

If you wanted something with a more aggressive tread pattern, the Cooper STT would be my hands down preference. My last set lasted me 65k*, and they were the best AT tires I have run. I would get them again, but my truck unfortunately spends 95% of its time on the pavement.

*I might add - a set of tires that last 65k in my hands is probably capable of a lot more with a more sensible driver behind the wheel.

Michelin has a very good rep for being smooth and quiet. Very good if you do towing or city, hwy driving. I would get those if I did no offroad or work.

Fact of the matter is I'm off pavement (not necessarily off road) quite a bit. And occasionally off road. Also being at construction sites there are plenty of penetrating objects to watch out for.

I run 305/70/16 BFG A/T and love them. I've had them on 2 trucks and they have always done well. A little pricy, but not out of the ball park. I paid $1,100 out the door including a free "Road Hazard" replacement guarantee for about 10% ($100). They have deep tread that protects me from (most) nails and the ones that do get through are covered by my Discount Tire/American Tire insurance coverage.

They do well off road and I do lots of towing with no complaints.

I need something for mostly city, freeway, dirtroads and lots of snow in winter. What would you recommend?

The previous owner got 2 Pathfinders for the front and the rear are still the Continentals. Those need to be replaced before winter.

As I said eaqrly on ( I think ) a friend use to run them on his truck, and we barely had a problem. When he went to the ground hawgs, there was less problems .

But what I really (think) want is a balance, the same reason I bought the toyos. I have had the toyo brand for ever now, they do not hook up very well in places like medians when they are loaded with snow and soft ground, they load up. They have also left me in the middle of nowhere stuck.

At the same token, I would like a tire to hold up. My natural tendancy is to look at the MS, or complete off road, but being as I want something to last, these are not the best bet. As far as MPG, I dont believe any tire is going to be that significant of a change, maybe I am wrong.

Never and easy decision, and after just learning that "my buddy with a tire store" doesnt always give the best deal, it makes it even more difficult to do this search.

Amazing how much tires have increased in the last 3 months. Been looking at the BFG A/T's and they were 190 at Discount three months ago. 229 today. No tellin what they'll be tomorrow. Dang.

I don't think you are wrong in that area - they do help, but keeping your foot out of it helps a lot more.

Have you looked at the Cooper STT's?

Cooper has come out with a new tire, Discoverer ST Maxx, I would have gotten them for my truck but they don't make them for 20" wheels yet.

Now you guys got me scared, I've heard nothing but good about the Goodyear Duratrac's, now that I bought a set for my truck, I hear all the bad. And for what they cost, they better hold up!! I guess we'll see how they do. I'm not too concerned because the shop I bought them from is great to work with, plus I purchased the most expensive tires he's ever sold... I don't know if that's something to be proud of or not.?

You can't go wrong with BFG.....I have ran many MANY sets on my trucks thru the years. I change every other time to something new, and always end up coming back to BFG's. I am running 37's on 18 inch wheels now though, it somewhat limits my choices until more people carry tires in my range.

315 75 16 BFG's installed Friday.. I have 230 miles on them, no where to really judge them. The tires seem to hold rocks for a bit before launching them into the wheel well, causing all in the truck to jump. There is a bit of a different ride, but nothing to write home about.. Hoping for my 55,000 miles.

They do like to hold onto rocks. I think everybody you has them says something about that. I still feel you will love them when you start to get in sticky situations. How much did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking?
