Brake issue solved
Well just recently I started to have a problem with my brakes (or lack there of) so I came here in search of awnsers. I saw alot of un awnsered posts or posts where the problem was stated and helpful suggestions, but no on ever posts what solved the problem. So I thought I would add a post up here. It might help some one.
Vehicle: 2004 Forf F-350 6.0L Diesel
Problem: Brakes started out spongey, then progressively got worse, till the break pedal would just go right to the floor and then no breaks at all. Now this issue came up about two weeks back and I promptly took it back to the place that I had bought I from. They told me that they had replaced the Hyd. boost, and the master cylinder (BS!) Then all of a sudden the issue was back 2 days ago. Same symptoms. So I came on here and searched and searched and searched. So being a mechanic myself, and I don't trust anyone but me to work on my vehicles. Called BS on the shop that supposedly just fixed this issue. So with much research and a little trouble shooting. I found the issue.
Solution: Both the Hyd boost and the Master Cylinder were bad. I completely flushed the break system, because there was ALOT of water in the sytem (which probably caused the problem in the first place). So after I replaced the Hyd boost, master cylinder and clean fluid. The breaks work perfect!
Lesson learned! Never trust another mechanic to work on your truck!
Hope this helps someone. There is alot of awesome info on here. But one thing I did notice is that alot of people don't follow up after they solve there problem. So thus the search goes on. All info is helpful, but further more if we know what the solution was, even more so
Still I have to say this has to be probably the single best site for Ford info! I have owned my fare share of Fords, all have been diesels and all have been F-350's. Just love the Truck. Problem or not wouldn't Trade it for anything different.
I know what you mean about trusting others. Even when I pay someone to do workn my truck, I always double check it.
I just went through brake issues myself. Frozen caliper on rear passenger side, chewed up the rotor before I noticed. My bad there. I can't blame Ford for that, it probably was a result of the truck being basically parked for 2 years while I was working n Afghanistan.
