So I've been looking all all morning to find a solution to my delemma. I could not find the awnser here so here's my question. My GP's will work one time and then not the next. I can go out and tap the controller box and they will work. Sometimes I have to tap on it more then once. I am wondering if I do a manual hookup if this will resolve that problem or do I possibly need a new controller. I put new Zd9 Glow Plugs in. Its an 89 with the newer GP System in it! I'm at a lost. Any help would be appreciated!
If tapping on the controller box makes it work I would guess the relay is sticking and a new box will be the solution. A manual setup would just tell it to turn on, but if the internals are hanging up that won't give you any benefit.
Jumper 12v to it from the battery. If it's still intermittent you need a new one. If it works, a manual setup would work (indicating the on/off timer circuitry is bad). If you're going to go full manual you could save some $$ by using a standard ford style starter solenoid or the old style GP solenoid.
Also check your existing box has a good electrical ground.
My 6.9 GP's have been doing that to for the past 2 years.... only when the engine is hot and it's really hot outside.... I kinda like it that they don't turn on at all when the engine is hot.
Might be just a grounding problem in my case but I'll let it be, I like it that way!

Ill try that and see what happens if it continues ill get a new solenoid for it but i do like the manual setupo so I will be for sure doing that!
