Noticed what sounds like a suspension clunk while towing my fiver this weekend. Not terrible, but noticeable mainly on a dip in the road where the suspension will get worked. Noise occurs as the suspension rises or rebounds.
Anyone heard this? I'll take it to the dealer eventually, but thought I'd ask here first.
Very interesting, could possibly be a loose shock mount or maybe sway bar end link.
As with anything suspension related, I would HIGHLY recommend taking this to the dealer now, not eventually. Engine problems can leave you stranded, suspension failures can KILL YOU.
I'm going to give it a look tomorrow if it doesn't rain (I think we've had 50 days of rain in the last 60 days) I suspect a shock bushing or something similar. The fact that it's louder and happens more often when towing makes me think the front end being lighter (due to the fiver's weight) allows more travel and augments the sound.
I'll keep ya posted. too tired to crawl under there tonight. Literally just walked in the door from mowing my swamp, cleaning the fiver, cleaning the mower (thank God for my MoJack!) and attending to the pool.

If you got the Ranchos, see if they pass the bump test. I just finished a 1k roundabout and I think one of mine might be bad. BTW - was in western New York -- the swamp statement was an understatement! I have never seen that much soaked ground up there. Was turkey hunting and even the turkeys were in canoes!

I've read about excessive play in the cab/frame mounts on this truck. The effect is typically worse at cold temps and overnight cool-down. Mine seems to exhibit that problem (a little less now as it is warmer out there). I'll have them shimmed during my next service visit.

I read about cab mounts that were causing some sound issues, but I thought it was that the bolt was too long? The noise I have sounds like it's coming from the front suspension, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Frankly when I first noticed it I was convinced it was a shock mount on my front left - the sound and feel was just like that.

I noticed the same thing this weekend when coming back with my 5er. It's about 14k lbs and I thought I could feel it in the steering column when turning to the right. It wasn't consistent however and only happened about 50% of the time. Let me know what you find on yours and maybe it'll save me a trip to the dealer.
I have noticed this "thunk" in my front suspension since the truck was new. I have always assumed it was a function of the front beam axle. I get the sound when I make a turn onto an off camber intersection (ie the intersecting road is at a different grade or has a side slope relative to the road I am turning from) which causes one of the front wheels to get lite. I assumed that this was the sound of the axle coming back down onto its stops or at the some limit to its ability to rotate. All my thunks have been with the truck unloaded, but I would think a trailer would just make the front axle even lighter and make the sound more likely.
If the experts here think this is something wrong then I will have to get the dealer to take a look the next time I go in. I was going to take her in for the transmission flash, but I have postponed it until they work the NOX and CEL issues out. I can live with some harsh shifts.......for a while.
