There is a noise that sounds like a "clunk" that originates from the right front. I notice it only when I get in the truck to warm it up. I'm not sure if it's something in the suspension or a cab post, but what ever it is, something seems to be settling into place.
Anyone else have this problem? The truck is an '02 F-350.
Iit is the cold air damper for the cab vent. To verify...
1) turn off the A/C controls before you turn off the engine when parking it for the night
2) tomorrow morning, start up as normal, but leave the A/C / heater OFF
....wait a few minutes, and you should hear no "thunk".
3) turn the A/C / heater control **** to your desired setting, and you may or may not hear the "thunk" depending on where you set your control *****.
This sound is perfectly normal, and is supposedly much louder in the older model trucks than in our 2002 models. It sometimes still startles me, even though I know where it's coming from and is completely harmless.
Thanks guys. Now that I think about it, that's exactly what it sounds like. I'll test it tonight and see what happens. I was afraid that my suspension was coming appart
.... I was afraid that my suspension was coming appart
No kidding!! That's exactly what i was thinking when i first heard it last fall. What clued me in to it being something else was when i noticed that it happened one morning before I ever took the shifter out of Park. Sometimes, it's not too loud, other times it'll pretty much make me jump it's so loud.
The shackles on the leaf springs wrap up a little when stopped. My dads 03' clunks and we traced it to the front springs. My 04' will do it now and then. I know what you guys mean by the door or whatever in the vent it can slam shut and make a similar sound. I always turn everything off before I park it for the night.
