Need Help: 85 Ranger Hoses

Anyone know where these hoses go?

This is a 1985 Ford Ranger 2.8L V6 171 engine, 2 wheel drive 5 speed trans. Carbureted of course.

There is a hose coming from the EGR valve and another hose from something else and not sure what goes where.

I believe one of them goes to the plastic air intake thing.

Hose 1

The hose on the EGR valve should go right under the front of the carb on a port coming out of the carb/EGR spacer plate.

The first hose, I believe hooks to a vacuum device on the underside of the air cleaner.
It's been many years since I have seen a 2.8 in stock configuration with all those hoses everywhere, the length of the hoses should give you a good idea where they terminate.

Need a little context.......Is this because of poor drivability issues?

The first is elect. choke wire, it's correct.
The second some kind of emiss. hose, also seems correct where you indicate.
The third, PCV valve vac. not certain at all.....probably anywhere you can obtain good vacuum.
The 4th, unable to see enough.

Have you considered doing the Duraspark swap and ridding your truck of all this 26 year old, probably non-fuctional emiss/comp stuff that is probably making your truck run poorly?

Duraspark swap?

I recently worked on the motor, putting new lifters, head gasket, valve cover gaskets and pcv or whatever has the 2 circles gasket.

The truck idles very poorly with the hose disconnected.
I'm certain that you are correct with the air intake hose and the first hose.

I replaced the lifters because there was a clicking, and it still clicks.

You realize the 2.8 is solid lifter engine?.........lifter noise is normal to a degree, muted ticking when valves are properly adjusted.

Is emissions testing mandatory where you live?....If not I strongly advise doing the Duraspark conversion (converting back to a earlier less trouble prone, Ford ign. system)

Never had an emissions test when I get my vehicles inspected.

Duraspark sounds good, what are the pros and cons? Do they sell them in stores like autozone or advance? I looked up on autozone and it didn't find anything when I searched for Duraspark.

Also, advance or autozone sold me Hydraulic lifters.

Pros are all there is to DS..........
Better mpgs
More power
Better reliability
Far more serviceable and simple
No more computer/emissions

Do a search in the Ranger and Bronco II forums here for DS conversion.
The rangerstation.com has excellent write up and diagrams in their 2.8 v-6 archives.

There is no "kit" available, parts must be gathered according to a list (You will see it on rangerstation write up)

I brought my truck to Berglund Ford Service place and they said that EGR hose goes to a little green hose which looks like an insulated wire without the wire inside.

Also bought some power steering fluid because it's real low!

It sure does shift smoother than it used to before I cleaned everything and replaced the gaskets.

I think the oil pan is leaking, going to have to check that out some time.

Some reason it smokes, looks like the smoke is coming from the chrome-like metal tube that goes under the plastic intake going to the exhaust manifold.

Could it be the Purple Power burning off?
