Just curious why you need a block heater.. Does it get that cold in Texas..? Do you have the factory heater now ? I read a lot of posts here where if you switch to a syn oil like rotella 5w40, you don't even need a heater.. (if your glow plugs and injectors are in good shape).

You should have a factory installed block heater, it is installed in the oil heater at the rear.

Look in that hole under the grille in the bumper between where the foglights go. There should be a cord there. Plug that in and presto! Block heated.

Ok, Either behind the Grill or Behind the tow hooks should be the cord.

However, if you are having problems starting, a warm engine block really will not help... just hide the issue.

You may have a bad GPR or need new Glow Plugs. I would have the system checked, but first load-test your batteries and make sure they are holding their charge and supplying the needed CCA to crank that bad boy over.

I only use my heater when it gets below 30. And I have Cold-Started at -22*F (before wind temp, and after sitting for 15 hours at that temp)

If your Glow Plug system is working correctly, you shouldn't be seeing any cold start problems.

My truck was sold in southern CA and it has one. Doubt it has ever gotten -30* here.

ALL ford diesel trucks up till 2005 came with block heaters and cords. After 06 they still have the heaters, just no cords.

If it's not there, someone removed it. Otherwise, it comes from the factory with it.

Look for the orange cord coming out above the oil filter. My truck is a TX truck and has one.
