I've been using a SCT XCal3 with tune updated to the 11B23 flash in my 2008 6.4. Somehow, this dummy managed to tune the 6.4 dead in the water. Like, I mean, turn the key to start and nothing happened beyond turning the key.
I called Mike at 5 Star, who in turned called his sources at SCT Customer Service. Mike called me back and advised me to call SCT Customer service which I did.
I spoke to a tech named Paul who stayed on the phone with me two full hours during which time, he reloaded the program into the XCAL3 and stayed with me on the phone while I successfully retuned the 6.4.
It was a great experience. Mike at 5 Star and Paul at SCT have certainly earned my complements and gratitude.
The one caveat was that the SCT programs are not Mac compatible. So, being a Mac user not using Windows simulation, required my walking next door to borrow and to use a neighbor's Windows computer to receive the download from SCT. Come on SCT! Make your programs Mac compatible!
The bottom line of course is that with or without Mac capabilities, within three hours of a dead in the water boo boo, Mike and SCT had me going. That's good service anyway its sliced. My thanks to the two of you!
I assume you now have the capabilities to monitor your temps.
I don't think the XCAL3 is something that remains plugged into the truck once the tune is loaded. You load the tune, unplug the device, and enjoy. I believe there is a data logging function, but it's not commonly used.
Yeah, I've only seen the XCAL in action once. Mike had the XCAL3 for tuning his V10 F250 that we had out there in January. Pretty slick the way it works, you just pick which tune you want, load it, unplug, and enjoy! I'm thinking about eventually tuning my Mustang with one.
