Torque Converter/Flexplate Problem

I just installed my engine/trans/transfer case, & I'm having a problem. The 6 o'clock converter stud doesn't penetrate the flexplate so I can get a nut on it. The others I can see have at least 2 threads. To make matters worse, I can't turn the engine when it's mated to the trans (both turn when they're apart). I've pulled it apart & reseated it about 10 times now, & no luck. The engine is a 5.0l, trans is a C4. The flexplate is the recommended one from the vendor and it's not hitting the converter drain plug. Getting pretty aggravated on this one, since this setup (with stock flexplate) was bolted to a 302. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Howdy!
AND welcome to the site! Lotta great guys here, lotta help. Also welcome to the forum. It seems to B one of the smaller, less active on FTE. For some great boots on the ground help I've joined my local chapter and see my neighbors that way. "Eyes on" could benifit. The contact is in FTE "table of contents" @ top of this page. Select "forums" scroll down to "chapters". Select yer state's name. Go 2 dat place.

To answ yer Q: no, no ideas. The later bronks came with a C4 specific to the vehicle, it wuz for a 302 and I got 1 of each on the acreage (Trouble is some 1 stole the Tq converter). U may NOT have these 2 babies, altho U got "reasonable facsimilies". I just don't know. Some 1 w/more knowledge will B along shortly. Keep talkin 2 us & we'll getja there, just may B not @ the speed you'd wish (like yesterday!). I been @ it w/this rig 28 yrs but I got no $, poor tools, low skills, etc.

Hey, thanks anyway. Think I'm going to post this in the F100 section for more visibility. This has me puzzled, & has stopped work on the Bronco.

Yes, I typically do, but I thought I might get some guys on here with some more generalized Ford knowledge. That's my next step if I can't get the vendor on the phone.

Flex plate

This is just something to think about.Did the engine you are installing have a manual transmission? If so did you remove the pilot bearing?

Gonna check for that today. I didn't think about that before, but I'm betting that's the problem.

Pilot was still in Oh well, lesson learned. Nothing appeared broken either, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks!

I have a D20. It & the C4 came from a Bronco, so no issues there.
