I am going to take advantage of this long weekend and replace my IP and Injectors, etc. I am following this article as closely as I can: TikiWiki : IDI Fuel Injection Servicing
Everything seems straight forward but I have an uncanny knack of Fing up projects like this in a new and original way. The first step is to see if I can get the bottom bolt on the IP loose. I might have to make a run to the hardware store. Luckily I have another car in case I pooch this project.
If you guys could keep an eye on this thread from time to time, I might have some dumb questions to ask. At least I have 2 1/2 days to figure it out.
OK, I am pooped. My dogs are barking and legs, *** and back are sore. I know someone will have a witty comment about that.
I got the IP out with help from the crows foot. You will need the open ended ones, not the C-shaped ones that I have. I had to buy a new set. I replaced the injectors, glow plugs and rocker cover gaskets.
I had to run to Auto Zone twice and Northern Tool once. I needed the crow foot set and the 16pt 5/16 socket for the timing gear bolts. Auto Zone did not have the socket.
I called it a night about an hour ago, took a shower and got some groceries.
Oh, I also changed the windshield wipers on one of my neighbors cars. People think I am some kind of mechanic or auto god around here.
I was reading that last night. I don't have a timing tool, so I was planning on getting it as close as I can and bringing it to a diesel shop and have them set it to factory spec.
After inspecting my old injectors, half of them have soot on the tips and one is missing the little pin that sticks out of the bottom. One looks like some dunce cross threaded the supply input. I think these are all original. They say "Cav England AJ" on them. The IP says Stanadyne on the side, so that is probably original, too.
eatont make sure the diesel shop has the electronics to time your diesel. none around here did so I got a ferrit timing unit. i figured it was safer that way since If i ever have to time it again i dont have to worry about findig another shop that knows how to do it.
infact when i asked 2 differnt "service" people about it at the ford dealer they said sure its a 5 min job we plug it in to the computer and done....
did you tell 'em you had a '93 Kendrick?
with a '94,always tell parts/service you have a '93.this way they won't mix up idi and powerstroke........well lol.it'll help eliminate a lot anyway.
the diesel shops with the old timing meters will of course get fewer and fewer.im sure you told 'em idi anyway.these engines are pretty much all forgotten in main stream shops now.even back in the day, being so reliable, they probably didn't see shops much in general.compared to today's diesels lol.when they did,id bet 99% were trivial fuel line issues.
times sure have changed with full cab off repairs and thousands of dollars a pop at times.
maybe its my pump and setup but i only ever need a 9/16" and a 5/8" along with the 8mm 12pt to get my ip out. Did yo take all of the lines off prior to removing the IP, still cant believe anyone would fight with those when the whole thing can come out, lines attached and all. Either way, awesome that you got it going, for the timing yeah just a dimes width advanced should get you to the auto mechanic for dynamic timing.
I have a problem now. The throttle position sensor does not fit on the new pump. Nor does the old bracket. The actuator coming off the pump is too large for the sensor or bracket to fit around. Any ideas?
you need to pull that pin out on the new pump.that's for the c6 trans.
then your TPS will slide right on.
do you know how to adjust the TPS? ...well just in case: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...djustment.html
(its stupid simple.don't worry.)
