Eaton you got your ac leak all squared up? Last time I was looking at yur thread you thought you might have a leak in the EVap or condenser side .... What did you end up finding? I run 134a in my diesel been great for 2 years now when I replaced the reviver and compressoer and orfice tube haven't had a issue since...

so your having the same luck with that feller on OBN as i did i see hahaha.
i waited on him to trade timing meter parts......he never did ship the thing.
i ended up buying a parts meter.
i didn't think he'd do this to ya since you were actually buying something!
i feel bad i sent ya over there to buy from him now.
may want to go ahead and just start the paypal refund jaz fyi.
im so sorry eaton.
Yeah, I sent him $200 via PayPal as payment for the Rotunda unit and shipping. That's not a small amount of money, either so I was expecting him to have it to me in a few days. No one around here has a working timing meter and I need one badly. I think I am just going to re-install my old IP this weekend and say F it. I needed this truck running three weeks ago and I am moving soon so I can't just leave it.

Yeah, I rebuilt the whole system. It works great now. I tested it yesterday and it blows pretty cold. I would like to get more air flow out of it but it is not bad as is.

I'm back on the market for a timing meter. These damn things are more scarce than water on the moon! I need one with all the correct parts for the 7.3 and preferably the 6.9 as well.

Is this a complete unit?

Can't say for certain but it looks like it's missing the tach pickup to me? The far right wire goes to a plug about 3-4 inches out and the pictures don't show the rest. Looks like the injection pickup is there.

For the price of those units I picked up a piezio line clamp and use my gasser timing light. Before the piezio clamp pickup I used a cheap luminosity probe pickup from ebay and timed it to TDC at 2k rpm. Felt more confident in the injection pulse method so I picked up the piezeo pickup to verify my timing. Go figure it was spot on 8.5-9*!

Where are you located? If you were in SE WI area I'd help ya out. Maybe another member close by has the equipment.

edit*

E-Bay Luminosity probe I used: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Diese...item3f0ab4cf22 Not great but apparently it worked!

Piezio line clamp: Ferret 765 with 1/4" line clamp. Website I purchased it from isn't loading for me so I can't provide a link right now but you can google it.

I'm in North Dallas, TX. I haven't met any real Diesel gurus around here. Plenty of people ask me how I got a Power Stroke to run without a tubo, though!

Last night I adjusted the pump advanced and retarded but every position the engine still shakes and chugs after it warms up. It runs pretty nice for a minute or two from a cold start but slowly goes down hill after that. If I shut the truck down for a few minutes, then start it back up, it runs OK for a very short time depending on how hot it is.

I think I had it too advanced at one point because the diesel knock did not go away off idle.

I think I am going to have to reinstall the old IP this weekend. I almost think my new IP is junk. The throttle rests on the stop and it still idles at almost 900 RPM.

I am moving in less than 3 weeks and I need this truck to do it.

So, I came home for lunch and as I was leaving, I opened the door to the UPS guy. Actually I looked through the peep hole and saw him come around the corner but none the less, my timing meter has arrived!!!!! I about defecated myself when I opened the box. I took it to work and confused the crap out of a bunch of people when they asked me what it was; they won't be doing that again!

Anyway, how do I use this thing? It is a Rotunda 78-0100 according to the case but I think it might be a 78-0200 because it has the 7.3L adapter. I'll take a picture later so someone can describe what part does what. I have the general idea but a few of the connections confuse me.

I can't find detailed instructions on using the pulse timing adapter. What is this magical sensor thing on my #1 injector? It looks like all the others; am I missing something?

On 7.3L engines there is a magical sensor installed between the injector and the fuel line. Its a round object, possibly with a thin plastic cover slipped over it.
To clarify, its screwed onto the top of the injector, then the fuel like screws on top of that.

The "magical" sensor is not on 6.9L engines. 6.9L engines were originally timed with luminosity meters. The thing that looks like a glow plug, but you can look through them, they are on the left side of the case in your pictures.

it came!!! oh good!
i gotta say im kinda surprised lol.
well you can time it the easy way or the easier way with that meter. id be trying out each.

when you stick the mag sensor in be careful.the old instructions tell ya to bottom her out haha (least the snap on set of instructions do.those probably said to do the same, had you had them,i dunno.) well what happens with a harmonic ballancer spins and rubs on a tool? yup.it wares your tool out.push it down in,and pull it up just enough to slide a piece of paper between the HB and the pickup (of course toss the paper,or let it spin out,but test it a few times to see if the probe doesn't just fall down all the way into the balancer again.)she'll still read just fine and not ware out your probe.do this with the engine OFF of course. keep your hands out of there with it running................hey with a mechanical fan this job is a little harder, and much more dangerous.watch your fingers & wires!

if you want to try luminosity timing sometime, grab one of these.
(keep your eyes open on ebay.)
