I am wanting to change the differential fluid due to the towing I do with a 11k lbs boat and 10k lbs travel trailer.
I noticed that the fill plug is half way up the plate towards the front of truck. The trans axle plate has bolts in the rear so I will have to pry the cover loose once loosening the bolts.
How do I fill the fluid full if the fill plug is only HALF way up the plate??
Maybe instructions how to do this procedure. I am sure dealer wants 2-300 bucks for the job.
You don't fill the diff clear full, it won't even fill all the way to the fill plug. The owners manual has the capacity listed under capacities and specifications.
No trans axle on this truck. Terminology is rear differential.
You take the cover off of the rear diff to do the job. To refill you use that hole for the plug. Just fill it according to the owners manual...or to the treads.
consult the manual for the type of fluid.
Also the cover does not have a gasket. So some silicon to get the seal is in order.
Just checked with my local ford dealer where I bought the truck. Don't know is service adviser was wrong but she quoted $250 b/c it too synthetic fluid..
