I want to run either 4 or 5'' side pipes on my truck, right now I have a single 4'' that exits before the rear pass. tire. I like the look of stacks but I have come to the conclusion that there not for me. My question to you is how can I run a pipe to the driver side? Ive thought to put a Y pipe on my exhaust that cuts down from 4'' to two 2'' and run the 2'' over some how and then open it back up to the 4 or 5''. My biggest problem is figuring out how to run the pipe over to the other side without getting too close to the tranny and still maintain the ground clearence, I dont want the pipe to be obvious either, my truck is lifted and anything hanging down too low will be seen and I like a clean run exhaust. Any ideas? Do any of you guys know where I can get stacks long enough to run the length of my cab? Any good ideas are appreciated thanks
Are you wanting the dual side pipes mainly for looks? Maybe just run a 4" on the driver side that is capped off up front and put a 4" Y connection near the back where there is more room to cross over. That would give you 2 functioning exhaust tips and a pipe on the driver side for looks.
You might want to check out an exhaust shop around town and get their know how, they might be able to do it on the spot for a decent price. You could fab something up if you have the time and patience but you might be cutting yourself short, 4 inch turbo back then 2-3 reducing then going back to 4 or 5 inch, not full flowing if you know what I mean. I personally heard a diesel with side pipes roll down the road and it sounded great, obviously didn't see the setup underneath.
Looks like Im gonna have to take it to a shop. If I had a 4'' Y pipe that reduced to dual 2'' its the same O.D so it wouldnt have an impact on flow. I do a lot of pipe fitting at work but Im a lot more **** about my personal things. Thanks for the thoughts I appreciate them
There's a shop right up the road from me that does spectacular custom work and dirt cheap to boot, all the inspection shops around go to him for exhaust work. My wife's Expy is going to him when its time.. Check around...
I have a shop like that about an hour and a half from me in Flat Rock MI, there no the cheapest but there the best Ive been to, the down fal is there only open M-F days and thats when Im at work lol
Thats a bummer, maybe a call to them to explain your plans and obstacles related to this dual setup on a SD and sick or personal day off from work and git-r-done, lol..

A 4" pipe has a much larger area than 2- 2" pipes. unless my math is wrong. jim
No Im not going for looks Im going for functionality... and maybe some looks lol. No one else has anything....... really
Your engine exhausts it's gasses out of one outlet. How do you plan to improve functionality? If we didn't have the turbo you could run a pipe off each manifold, but to get 2 pipes you'll have to split the exhaust stream which won't give you any gains in efficiency.

Not to mention the added restrictions from the additional bends.
I have been wanting to do this for a year now... My buddy has a calendar with a truck on it that has side pipes... As for them being functional on both sides my point is when i go to wood it and smoke comes out it would look dumb if it only came out one side.. However you do it you are going to need some flex tubing and some handy work... My idea was to hopefully run the y splitter just after the down pipe but i have not even had a chance to look under my truck to start thinking of possibilities
I took the truck to an exhaust shop (not the one I wanted to) they said that it can be done with 4'' but I dont like the way they were looking to run it. Plus the guys at the shop didnt even know what up-pipes are. I wont be going there for that. Ill have to see what the shop I really wanted to go to says, I havent been in the area to go there latley but Ill keep you guys posted as much as possible.

A 4" pipe has a considerably larger area to flow thru than 2-2" pipes.
Pi X Radius squared.
2" pipe= 3.14X(1"X1")=3.14 X 2 pipes= 6.28 square inches.
4" pipe= 3.14X (2"X2")=12.57 square inches.
You need 4-2" pipes to flow the same as 1-4" pipe. Also, the larger the pipe, the lower the friction coefficient.
