You have to unclip it from the backside (sorry I don't remember the exact way it unclips) If I remember correctly, it should pull forward enough for you to reach back and feel how it unclips though. If it wont pull forward enough, most likely the cable is hanging up. All I can suggest is fishing around behind/under the dash and see if you can get it loosened up some.

I feel your pain bub. Im 6'2 210lbs. Its not too bad but another suggestion of mine would be to use the kind of bulbs posted in 86's writeup, the good kind! Mine are cheap and i figure ill be doing this again in the next 6 monthes. Im having trouble with the ones im using as well. Theretoo long and stick out to far and is hitting something. I have pics ill post later of the size differences.

they work fine for the blinkers (look BA), and three of the illumination lights on the gauges. the other two i had problems with. ill get some pics up as soon as i can. i got school tomorrow and work right after that.

i wouldnt try and discount any of this. trust me its going to be a job you arent going to want to do again. plus the bulbs i have you have to get in there just right or they wont stay lit up. i went over a bump and one of my ac panel ligths went out..

also when trying to get it unplugged i must have had my gauges laying too flat because the only 2 of my 6 gauges are working now.. tach and speedo only. so im going to start a thread about that and check out my options for that.

alright i fixed my gauge problem. the plug wasnt in all the way! ill have to wait and see if the lights are working. probably not because the bulb i used was too big. ill have to order some like in 86's write up sometime.

heres some pics. the bulb on the left is the bulb i ordered the first time that wasnt bright enough and ended up in my license plate lights. the bulb on the right is the one i ordered this time and was too long for two of the holes. the housing wouldnt go back up into it far enough to turn it to lock it in.

and heres some of the goodside of the gauges where they actually lit up.
