Hello fellas
I have a 99 f250 with 7.3 psd Love the truck but over the winter I noticed when I shut the truck off the turbo sound stops imeadiately. Previously I could hear the turbo continue to run well after stoping the engine and getting out of the truck..
Any idea what is causing this?
I was concidering a special engine cleaner that takes out oil deposits. it is actually designed for injectors but said it would also clean the oil side of the turbo unit.
Take the intake hose off the turbo, then grab the nut on the wheel and move it side to side. A little movement is ok, but you don't want it to hit the housing. Push the nut on the wheel in and out, there should be no movement in and out. If you can move the wheel in and out, you will need to rebuild the turbo.
I don't ever remember hearing the stock turbo spool down after turning off the engine untill I installed the 6637 intake.
Keep us posted.
EDIT: John, you moved this while I was typing. lol
Rick just gave you good advise. Check this soon, if there is a problem you need to fix before you dust it. One of the wheels could be wearing out or jsut hitting the side of the inside walls.
Thanks John,,, I have another post going in another forum and must have messed up and put it in the wrong spot.
Thanks for the info, I will take it apart tomorrow.
Rick I have always been able to hear it "spool down" so much so at times that I would walk to the back of the truck and continue to hear it in the exaust. I always thought it was cool,, even though cool isint near as important to me as function.

OK, If the turbo is in need of a rebuild, it may be hitting the housing once you turn the truck off and slowing it down. How does the truck run? Any mods?
the only running issue I have nioticed is it is a bit sluggish at times and seems to have less power than before. No oil consumption, no hard starting. Drags a bit when starting for the first time of the day regardless of temp.
For a truck with 250,000 miles on it I think it runs pretty good. I used to hear the turbo running alot now I only seem to hear it when i get on it pulling a heavy load up a hill or passing.
