Rear Springs

I have a 95 f150 reg cab long bed 302 auto. I just recently hooked up my race car trailer 20 x 8.5 enclosed that we use for storage. It has mostly sat for 4years. We are getting ready to move, so I will be using it to move. It was full of storage when I hooked it up . It sank the truck like it was a ranger. Ive been looking for a 250 but havent found anything decent. Plus I wont need a 250 on average. My question is I have some springs out of a 94 flare side reg cab 302 auto that I had done a lightning conversion on. They look to have 5 leafs compared to my long beds 4. I know the flare side bed weighs more and that there is less weight on the rear tires on a long bed because the axle is farther from the engine , but is that the only reason there would be more springs or could the flare side have had a towing package? The reason Im wondering is becuase Im thinking about putting them on the long bed but I dont want the rear of the truck bouncing violently on highway seams and bumps. The part # on the springs is F47A GA and there is a RPN1624 stamp on them too.

You want to put a 20' enclosed race car trailer behind an F-150 with a 302?

I gotta see this.

Get a bigger truck. Yours doesn't have the pulling power, stopping power, or capacity to handle a trailer that big. Empty, maybe, but full of household goods? Not a prayer. Unless you are moving across town, and even then I'd be nervous, rent/borrow a 3/4 ton.

^^^Agreed. That is a lot of trailer to pull/stop with a half-ton pickup.

Your right , if I were going on the highway I wouldnt consider it. If I were going to use the trailer even once a month I would get a 250. Im moving to a house in the same town. I can make several trips. I just dont really want to get another truck and have to go through it and make it right. The two that I have, have been really good to me . I have seen f250's with 302's tho. I know that dont make it right. I think my Lightning would have put up a better fight with it. I would really like an f350 dually lowered with those rig wheels but I cant buy anything that I cant get on my lift at work. I have to make a sharp left turn just insde the door to get to the lift. The fenders would never clear.

What does the trailer (empty) weigh?

I think they said it was 3200 to 3500. Its a haulmark with steel framing. It has electric brakes. If those other springs would buy me some height Id be OK for the little bit that I have to use it.

I would limit loading the trailer to 1/3 or maybe 1/2 full if you can. You are just asking too much of your truck. Instead of replacing the rear springs, try getting an add-a-leaf kit at a parts store. They aren't hard to install and will help the stock leafs out quite a bit.

The Helwig add-a-leaf systems bolt to the top of the stock spring pack and can be setup so it doesn't affect the unloaded suspension action or ride height, I have the EZ-990 on my truck and love it.
