I was surprised on the way to church this AM to see the regen message on the display. Is there a way to tell when it finishes? I had to shut the truck down shortly after I saw the message, but have a short trip (30 minutes highway) this afternoon which I would hope would allow the regen to complete.
What happens when you shut the truck down before a regen has completed?
The only way to tell really is to watch the instant MPG gauge. My regens usually occur every 250 miles (give or take - depending on work load of the truck. I.e. pulling or not). My normal driving is about 30 miles to work, 30 miles home with longer trips on the weekend. I think the trucks learn your driving habits and adjust regens to that. My regens last about 10 miles. I have heard others post of longer intervals between regens, but the regens typically last longer as well. Bottom line is the truck has to warm up to operating temps before regen will start. If you turn the truck off (or I believe even if you put it into park), the regen will stop. It will typically not start again until the sensors say it needs to (I think this is part of the "learning" the truck goes through). If you end up stopping several times before regen is complete, you'll eventually get a message that says "Drive until regen is complete".

If you shut it off enough times the truck will come on and tell you to drive to complete regen. Once that mode happens it will also tell you when it is done. I had that happen the other day which is why I know. But under normal regen mode there is no message that pops up to tell you when it is done.
Yeah, that's one of the more obnoxious things that appeared with the more recent 6.4L flashes as well as all 6.7L trucks. I didn't get my 6.4L reflashed for that exact reason, and not knowing when the regen is complete is something that I still miss about that truck!
No big deal, as rickatic is fond of saying it's really not even an issue. Unlike the 6.4L which lost some power and experienced a different engine sound during regen the 6.7L engine drives exactly the same. She just drinks a little more.
