advise needed
i have a couple of questions first has to do with the starter i have an 80 f150 when the starter engages it makes an awful grinding noise i had an 81 when i was in high school that did the same thing. i instaled a new fly wheel and starter right after i bought the truck and the problem continues. the truck is torn down at the moment and the engine is in peices but when i put the truck back together i would like to solve the problem. the truck has a 302 with a c6 does the starter require shiming? does the sheet metal between engine and tranny have anything to do with this problem?
second has anyone ever taken the puley system from a later truck with the serpentine belt system and instaled it on an older truck? what am i in for?

the starter on my truck made the same god awful screech/grinding noise until I finally read on here about using a ten tooth gear as opposed to a nine tooth gear for the starters drive gear. it seems to mesh with the flexplate better and I also went with a gear reduction starter instead of direct drive. the old girl starts faster and quieter now.
