Not that I know of but I bought the truck used with 4500 miles on it so it is possible.

Make sure the rear has a check valve in the vent or vent line. This will stop moisture laden air from entering the housing as it cools down. kotzy

How was it checked with out removing the diff cover? Did you extract some with a turkey baster through the fill hole?

Yes it was extracted through the fill hole. It didn't look too bad but def had a grey color to it. I will have to check to see if there is a check valve on the vent.

The diffs are filled with synthetic gear oil and the rear diff has a 150K mile change interval, at least that's the case with my '04 Expy. If I were towing I'd likely reduce the interval to 100K miles.

I think I'd talk to the dealer about this one as it's still under warranty.

I'm straining my memory banks a little bit, but I don't think the fluid being gray is unusual.

wasn't sure but the last that I looked at was more of a honey color after it had been in for about 20000 miles

The gray color comes from the white marking compound used when the axle is set up at the factory. There is a special service message from Ford about this topic.
