The edge display gauge goes into full high EGT alarm for a second or so when I'm just driving normally. Then, usually returns to normal right after the alarm goes off. Sometimes it runs high EGT reading for more than a little while. I even pulled over and let the truck idle for a while and the EGT readings were staying at least 300 - 500 degrees over normal, shut the truck down and restarted it no problems, confused yet? Is the issue with the edge programer or is it giving me a true reading. During the high temp alarms the programer goes into back down like it's supposed to for safety but what's the deal? Exhaust gas valve?
Yeah I'm thinking it's the Edge so far just cause of how long it is going into alarm for. The truck is an 2002 7.3L and the programer has been in for over 5 years.... The pyrometer was installed as per the instructions as to the locations for where to drill and tap but from memory I couldn't tell you exact locations, but 5 years and the location is wrong now? Do the probes go bad? I always wondered about the length of the cable coming from the probe as it was too long. I raveled the excess after plugging it into the wiring but it was kinda sloppy as far as I'm concerned, maybe the coiled wire?
Man I don't know yet truck ran like a top today and I did a tun of driving with work both easy and hard miles.
Have you checked the wire lately to make sure its still tied up? If its hanging loose and rubbed trough on something, that could mess up the reading. The length shouldn't matter since it worked before. The only time I had my EGT's run extremely high while empty was when the EBPV stuck shut and I was trying to force it open. That run topped 1300 till it popped open.
I had a probe go bad on my Edge Evolution and it started reading unusually low EGT's. I wouldn't be surprised if the the probe or the attached electronic control box went bad.
