I have a 2003 f-250 6.0 It has never been crashed. I have around 56,000 miles on it. The other day the airbag light started blinking. Now it blinks for a few seconds at start up and then stays lit. The dealership wants quite a bit just to diagnose the problem. I realize that airbags are a "Dealer only" part. My question is- has anyone else experienced this problem? I have been disabeled since Oct without any income, so really don't have the extra cash to put it in the shop. I have contacted Ford to ask for some assistance in the diagnostic end, just to make sure it isn't going to deploy like the 150's. Dead end there. The dealer is unwilling to help in any way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If this topic has already been covered I apologize in advance. I haven't logged on in a while. Thanks!
Thanks anyway Cheezit. All the other info you have supplied over the years is PRICELESS and appreciated. I'm just going to drive it until I get the funds to have it "hooked" up. Just kinda paranoid! lol
The flashing light tells you a code. Two digits, so it flashes the first group, pauses, and flashes the second group, then repeats. So... flash flash pause flash flash flash pause... would be code 23. Come back with that and I should be able to tell you what the DTC is.
edit: Oh, and if there are more than one code present, it will only tell you the most urgent one.
I have an 2005 and my air bag light was flashing a code of 23 or 32 depends which way you look at it. Anyway my cruise was also not working after some research the common denominator for mine was the clock spring. It was about 85.00 at the dealer. Changed it and fixed both problems with one part. It took me about an hour and a half to change but I think I could do it under an hour next time. Easy job just take the right percautions with removing the air bag. Hope this helps.
I counted two then a pause and then seven. I am "assuming" this would be code 27? If I am doing it correctly. Any idea of what this code may mean? I appreciate the help fellas!
I don't have access to my service manual right now, but I think 27 is the passenger airbag deactivation switch. Usually the light burns out. The dealer wants the entire switch, and it's spendy, but most just take it apart and get a replacement at Radio Shack. I don't remember if it's a bulb or LED, but they should have both.
Try turning the switch off and see if the light doesn't come on.
You guys are right! Thanks so much. I really appreciate the help. I don't think I am going to try to replace the bulb- looks like alot to take apart just to get to it. Anyone performed this? I am just happy knowing the airbag isn't defective, or going to deploy without needing to. I can live with the light staying lit on the dash at the moment. Funds playing a big part of this decision. Thanks again for the help.
