Turbo swap question...

Well I got my hands on a 04 turbo....

Well I believe my seal is bad in mine since I found oil in my down pipe...

My questions is...I know it wont fit into the bracket my turbo is in now....

could I take the exhaust side of he 04 turbo off. and put the exhaust side of the turbo from my 06 turbo and put it on the 04 turbo?

because if I did that then I could fit the turbo into the mounting bracket?

Or will I run into problems?

Well the turbo came out of a truck from the company I work for....

Its on a f-450 rack body....the truck has 50K on it a guy comes back and says the truck has no power...I figure Ill check out the turbo....

Took it out pulled it apart and the exhaust side fins were all chewed up....

So I would have to take that part out of my turbo and sawp it into the 04 turbo..Also the vaines were chewed up pretty badly...I will post some pics of it up

so you are wanting to take your internals and put them into the 04 turbo? you need to have the seals replaced in yours

better yet sell him your 06 turbo and ped and buy you a powermax turbo and just have him change out the seals

changing internals is harder than it seems. seriouly just sell him your turbo and get a powermax. cheaper on both parties

Tyler just buy a reconditioning kit and rebuild it . I don't think its to much harder than cleaning just a few more steps. I think Bismic has detailed instructions for it.

Benchwrench did an awesome write-up on the turbo rebuild - it is in the tech folder. Gpopshop.com is where you get the rebuild kit for $125 plus shipping. I have been very happy with my powermax. I spoke to a number of turbo shops about rebuilding vs powermax - they were all very impressed with the build of the powermax and felt it was a top to bottom better turbo. If you do the work yourself, the rebuild is certainly inexpensive. BTW I have an 06 turbo and rebuild kit sitting in my garage (awaiting a lazy Saturday or someone in need). Good luck

Why not??? 04,5,6,7 turbo's all use the same pedastal. Bolt it up and be done.
