power steering

i just got my 68 mustang on the road. i know this is a truck site, but i fugured the power sterering would be about the same. is there some kind of adjustment on the power steering and if so how do i adjust it. it feels like its got a little too much play in it. thanks

power steering

There is a nut on the top of the ps box with, I think, and allen head screw in the middle of it. The allen head screw is the bearing load adjuster and the nut is a lock nut. There is a torque spec for the bearing load, but most folks just turn it until they get some resistance and the lock it down.

Someone who has done this recently help me out with more detail.

If it's like my 69 Stang (which I bet it is) it has an assist cylinder and a valve body in the steering linkage. This valve creates alot of the slop. If that's not it tighten the adjuster screw on the top of the steering gear box. I didn't care for the feeling of this setup so I converted to manual myself.
