I recently got my factory build sheet from Ford and one item I see there is "adjustable steering column " . What exactley is a adjustable steering column ? I know its not tilt because the truck has never been altered and it doesnt have tilt . Any comments ? Thanks !!
I know the original owner who bought the truck new . I do have cruise and its on the steering wheel by the horn . The truck has never been modified in any way since he picked it up at the dealer .
Dumb question but I assume the tilt would be on the same lever as the turn signals ? No other secret hidden spot ?
If you have cruise, then you have tilt - they only offered cruise with tilt, but it was possible to get tilt & delete the cruise.
Push your turn signal stalk forward with moderate pressure while pushing & pulling gently on the top of the wheel. There should be a vertical bar visible behind the stalk inside the column that will move back & unlock the tilt mechanism.
You should also be able to find the break in the column where it will tilt.
common problem with tilts, many people do not realize that the tilt and non tilt use the same turn signal switch except for one very important detail. on the tilt vehicles the lever screws into a pivoting mechanism and on a non tilt it screws into a fixed part. i have seen many tilts with non tilt switches in them making them non-functional! you can convert a non tilt switch into a tilt by grinding off the riveted top part of the pivot and then pulling out the fixed part. on a tilt the pivot is usually held in by a screw and can just be taken off and installed on the previously fixed unit. if you have the two side by side you will see what i am talking about. hawkrod

Well , turns out it is tilt I was reluctant to push the signal lever to hard after finding out the truck may have tilt steering . I`m used to having a secondary lever behind the turn signal .But you were right , I pushed forward and WOW , tilt steering
The old dude that bought the truck I guess never knew it was there and basically hasnt been used since today . I`m one of those guys who love tilt steering and I`m happy . Thanks for the help Steve .

ok after reading this post I went out to my 84 f-150 with cruise but it dont seem to have tilt {which would be nice to have} Am I missing something? i can take pics or whatever if it helps.
well i am not underestimating youre capabilities of reading in any way or thinking you are dumb so dont get mad i am just making sure you are tryin it correctly but i felt i could describe again how to use the tilt option(if equipped)
ok if you are sitting behind the wheel and you grasp youre turn signal lever on the left side of youre steering column and use moderate pressure to push it forward/downward in the direction that the steering column goes down at an angle
and then while holding that down you should be able to move youre steering wheel assy up and down and if it doesnt work then you have something broken inside

On your turn signal lever , does it push forward at all ( like a 1/2 inch ? ) . I was reluctant to push farther but its a solid click then the wheel moves . Also , look at the break in the column right after the steering wheel , if you look close you can see the break where its suppose to tilt .If you suspect it does have , hold the wheel while pushing forward on the lever . Let me know how you make out . Post a pic anyways
I see your sig says you run Flowmaster 40`s ? How do you like the sound ? Is that the 2 chamber or 3 chamber ? Was looking at putting a couple on my F250 .
Well, maybe I'm remembering backwards then - maybe it's possible to have cruise w/o tilt, but not tilt w/o cruise... In any case, look at the hole the blinker lever goes thru and see if there's a vertical bar the same diameter as the blinker stalk just behind it. If there is, then you DO have tilt. If not, you don't.
