Warn winch mounting question

My buddy totalled his F 350 like mine, and salvaged a like new Warn 12,000 lb. winch. He doesn't need it so he will sell it to me for $1,000 which seems like a good price, as he only used it one time and it is perfect. He had it mounted on a nice bumper, but that was bent.

So I need a good mounting platform (F 350 SRW, 4WD, 2006). I really don't want a big replacement bumper/grill guard, but would rather have something smaller (and Cheaper), but maybe there is no such thing. Any way to use the stock bumper and a bolt on platform? I also don't want a receiver hitch style unless you guys talk me into it. What are some options for mounting this winch?? Pictures would be great!!

Consider this:

Run heavy cable to front and rear receivers and one winch gets you unstuck front or rear. When not in use, it stays warm, dry, and safe in the cab.

You'll want to replace the aluminum wire rope with better wire rope, keep the wire rope lubricated with fluid film, oil, or wire rope lube. Chain, hooks, and a variety of rigging are also helpful.

I used a warn semi-hidden mount which mounts behind your factory bumper. Check on that.

No one uses aluminum wire rope. They all use aircraft grade cable. And no need to lube it as its galv. Plus if you lube it it will collect dirt and wear faster. Synthetic cords are good now. Been winching for over 20 years.

I have one of those front hitch mounts that bolts on the same place as the bumper..on both sides. Then I have a frame that holds the winch which plugs into that 2" rec. Works good for me cause I can use it in the back if I need to and take it off for the winter to use my plow. Made by drawtite.

That hidden kit looks really good! How much does that mount cost and how hard is it to install. I read where the bumper is removed and moved forward. Did you install it yourself?? What's involved? I like it! (same color as mine too)

As far as a receiver type mount, I can appreciate the versitility of that, but just don't want to have to lug my winch around, or risk theft. I have too many tools and running out of places to put them, so hidden under my bumper seems better for me.

Any other mounts that sit outside the bumper to consider?? Thanks guys.

the kit was 400ish dont remember for sure...install was a few hours, hardest part was removing the stock bumper...then it's just adding the bumper extension brackets and putting it all back together. can be done with one person but would be easier with an extra set of hands.

as far as other mounts...I couldn't find one I liked without going to one of those expensive "road armor" bumper replacements. I like the kit I got because it kinda looks "factory"...

I agree. That looks really awesome. I will look into that. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I just could see putting a massive aftermarket bumper on mine. I had seen these on Warn's website, but they did not have any good pics, so your photos really help.
