LOWER BALL JOINT INSTALL ADAPTER
Hi all,
I am going to have to install new ball joints on my 2003 F-250 4WD soon--They are starting to squeak at 50,000 miles--Lousy ungreasable ball joints. I got the ball joints already (Raybestos, from Rock Auto). I own an auto repair shop, and I got them there cheaper than from any of my local suppliers. I am going to make a seal driver from pipe and a flange for the big axle seal, but I am having a problem finding an adapter for my 20 year old Mac Tool ball joint press for the lower joint.
I have 3 adapters. The small one fits the upper ball joint like it was made for it--The I.D. of the adapter is 1 & 3/4". I need an adapter with an I.D. of
1 & 7/8" to fit the lower joint, but the other 2 adapters I have are much bigger than that.
Is there such a thing as 1 & 7/8" plumbing pipe ??? I don't think so. Is 2" pipe 2" O.D. or 2" I.D. ??? I'm going to have to go over to Home Depot tomorrow and start measuring their pipe nipples. What have you guys used to press in that lower joint ???
