upper ball joint question

So i gotta replace the upper ball joint on my 96 f250 along with the U joint right there. But i was wondering if i could replace it with out separating the lower ball joint by fitting the ball joint press where the the red line is.

No there isn't room. If I remember correctly it gets removed by pressing from the bottom to the top so at least on my press the lower joint has to be out of the way. I wouldn't just replace one and not the other unless you had already done the lower recently.

You should replace both ball joints and be done with it instead of doing the upper today and the lower next week...

I'm taking out my drive shaft anyways to replace the u joint so I might have enough room with everything else taken out. And the lower ball joint was done not to long ago according to the Les Schwab receipt I got with the truck.

On my TTB Dana 44 there wasn't room. The knuckle has to come off either way. Hope it works out for you.
