Ball Joint Press/Adapter?

I'm new to the forum and Expeditions (and Fords too) and I am getting ready to embark on my maiden Expedition project...Ball Joints!!!

I recently picked up an '01 XLT 5.4L w/ 82,000 miles for a great price. So far the only thing wrong with it is bad ball joints.

I'm going to replace these myself as soon as possible. I'm looking into buying a Harbor Freight press and through my research I have found that the Expy requires a special (deeper/bigger) receiving cup (right???).

What are the dimensions of the lower ball joint (if anybody knows)?

Which HF press to buy:
the regular 3-in-1 Ball Joint Kit all alone or with the Master Ball Joint Adapter Kit
-OR-
just the Four Wheel Drive Ball Joint Service Kit

Or am I just throwing money away and I should take the lower control arms to a local shop and have them do the dirty work?

Thanks for the input.

Go to Autozone and they have a loaner press kitto do the job. tey have two different kits, one with all the adapters and another with only some. I did my ball joints on two different occasions and I could do the job with either kit.

I used the four wheel drive kit that you show there when I swapped balljoints on the '01 Navigator that we had.
Worked perfectly, and was not expensive at all. Plus, instead of using unknown condition loaner tools,I know how my tools are treated and have the press kit for future use.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to go buy that kit this weekend and order the parts.
