Hey guys,
I have a '79 f-150 XLT regular cab, column shift and a C4 so it has the low tranny tunnel. The interior is in very nice condition but the carpeting is worn. I have new seals and a new pass. side window regulator to put in.
I have been wanting to get new molded carpet but have been fearful to by "after market" as I bought the "cheap" door pannels with the molded in arm rest and the pass. side armrest cracked due to over enthusdiastic passengers and a somewhat low quality product. SO needless to say I do not want to spend $130+ for carpet and then get junk. I want the full carpet that goes all the way to the back of the cab. The truck ext. is dark blue and the carpet is a medium blue. Recomendations on who to buy or where not to buy from would be appreciated. Any other info realted to the topic would be nice.
Thank you,
Nick

HI Nick, Welcome to the Site !
I looked but,I don't think our store has carpet anymore.
I would check in your area for an automotive Swap meet coming up soon.
There are usually dealers that bring their good with them to show quality and sometimes they have the application you need, otherwise check out these guys

Years ago I bought some carpet from JC Whitney, as did a friend of mine. Both of our carpets came with a pad attached on the underside of the complete piece of carpet and the ends were all finished. Recently, I bought a carpet from Summit Racing, I checked the On-line Store here but they didn't have any. The carpet was made by Ohio Mat, it is not a quality piece. The carpet only has a small piece of insulation in one area of the carpet's underside and the edges are not finished. I thought that I would get a quality piece from Summit but I was wrong. I should have done some digging on the internet. I am certainly not suggesting you buy carpet from JC Whitney either, I just lucked out. You never know what you are going to get from JC Whitney, some of their stuff is good quality while other stuff might be junk. What JC Whitney sells you depends on what they have in stock at the time, risky!

I put vinyl in one truck and carpet in the other truck. Both were superior quality and had great fit. Very nice people too.

"the pass. side armrest cracked due to over enthusdiastic passengers and a somewhat low quality product. "
Somebody ripped my arm rest off too when they were trying to close the door. An easy way to prevent this is to put a handle of some kind on the metal above the top of the door panel, then people wont try to close it by the arm rest.

Thank y'all for all of the info. I'm 17 and only make 5.80 an hour so I try and get good quality stuff when I do buy. How much should I be looking to spend on carpet? $120-150? or more? I was hoping thats all. I have a bunch of dyna mat to put under it and should really make it nice. I have a decent stereo in it (NOT a boom-boom set up but good quality sound) and I have a amp to put in so I wanted to wire the amp, put the dyna mat, and the carpet in while I have the seat out. The seat (bench) looks pretty easy to get out, correct? I have a complete set of door seals for it too so this should really revamp my interior as it's just these few things that are "bad".
I really appreciate all the info, I know you're most of the basic how-to stuff and my dad is quite the car guy (he even speaks to the national ASE board on occastion) but you can't beat first hand experiance on stuff like this!
This web site is a big help for us Ford guys.
I've been trying to get together some meets in North Texas, so if you're in the Texas area and not on the Texas Board in this forum get over there and let us know about yourself.
Thank you again guys and keep the info comming!

Try to search for ACC, I think thats the name. They make some good carpet. I bought on for a Honda I had at the time and was selling. The dog throughly trashed the old carpet, along with hauling transmissions in the hatch. It came with the insulation in the factory locations, heel pad, and preformed. The install is not too bad, remove everything, lay it in mark where holes need to be, cut those, and lay back in and use a spray adhesive. Then trim to fit on the door jambs etc.. they leave extra so you can trim for a good fit.
