my 2004 6.0 165,000 miles has a real lack of power when cold. If I park it on a hill on soft ground it simply doesn't have the umph to move the truck. It starts and runs smoothly but just sits there will not build RPM's much past 1000 when you step on the accelerator. Couldn't pull itself out of a wet paper bag.
When its warm it runs just fine and seems to have no problem.
Any ideas
Mark

Reason: mileage
The most likely culprit would be an exhaust leak since I do have a slight smell in the cab when idling to warm up.
The truck did not throw any codes and had good boost when the mechanic hooked her up. It is a relatively new EGR valve, the oil and all filters, oil, air and fuel are changed on a regular basis, and the turbo had some work on it about 30K ago
I have had the same issue with numerous tanks of fuel so bad fuel doesn't come high on the list.
The funny thing is that once the truck warms up it runs fine with ample power and it seems to run pretty smoothly while it is warming up except for the lack of power on pull away.Runs a little rough for the first 1 or 2 seconds max when started but then smooths right out.
